THE ART OF THE PIVOT
I have been sharing an “office” with my finance director husband for 3 months now and have learnt a few things in this time.
- We shouldn’t share an office space!
- He has a really loud video call voice.
- Bankers say PIVOT a lot!
And, after taking 137,946 Level-5-lockdown virtual shots for every time I heard the word, I found myself falling prey to its charm. While the world faced an unprecedented challenge, we, as marketers and creators, have had to practice this invaluable art of the Pivot [n.] more than ever.
Almost overnight, audiences were left blind-sided, our mediums began to dwindle with productions and budgets shutting down, and our canvasses shone to empty streets. Almost overnight, 28% more eyes were on broadcasters to fill the void. Up to an 86% increase in data consumption meant that more thumbs were trawling digital spaces searching for answers, resources, distraction, direction. We have had a more captive audience this year, than any other…
PROMAX Africa 2020 celebrates how we as an industry pivoted and continues to pivot with the unpredictability of this pandemic. We pull back the marketing fog to reveal the raw, unpolished and authentic creative that has long been hidden under big budgets and favourite audience pastimes.
PROMAX has acted no differently. With government guidelines and the safety of our community in mind, we have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 PROMAX Africa Conference – as you know it.
We recognise the challenging operating environment and the necessary focus of the industry on re-establishing revenue streams as we recover and rebuild. And, to keep you inspired through this time, we are ensuring you stay connected to the best practices and global talent Promax can offer.
We are pivoting to provide complementary (yes, FREE) webinars from July and throughout the rest of year, culminating in the first-ever Promax Africa Virtual Awards Show streamed on Facebook Live on 5th November at 4pm SAST, hosted by M-Net and DStv. This means that for the FIRST TIME EVER, you can get on with popping bottles in celebration of this year’s most innovative, compelling and impactful work, in under an hour! Entries open on 27th July.
As your industry body, we are here to support you in any way that we can.
If your livelihood has been affected by COVID-19, and you need a platform to promote yourself, we’ve got you. Visit the brand new Pitch Me. section on our website for more details.
