Unathi is the modern day African Renaissance Woman that continues to evolve through time. The video for her new single NGUWE has just been released from her 5th studio album titled BRAVE,
TRUE AND STRONG.
The singer, songwriter, SA Idols Judge and business woman continues to fly the South African flag high having recently returned from Tanzania on a trip that would change her life forever. She performed on the foot of and successfully summited the world heritage and wonder of Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro. This she did in her capacity as the continental ambassador of the Top Level Domain Dot.Africa.
Unathi is also the brand amabassador for House of Mandela. A luxury jewellery line founded and owned by Dr Makaziwe Mandela in her father’s honour Nelson Mandela. 2018 marks the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth which is a very significant year for the family and legend himself. Needless to say this is a tremendous honour for the songstress.
Musically Unathi has wooed audiences of all calibres and continues to gather continental acclaim. Performing for the United Nations delegates she evoked such strong emotions that legendary producer Quincy Jones gave her a standing ovation and joined her on stage during her performance to sing her praises. She has shared the stage with international greats such as John Legend, Yossou-Ndou, Chaka Khan and Dbanj.
This Power House has graced South Africa’s biggest stages like the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Oppikoppi, Macufe, The Deliscous Festival and not forgetting the fourth largest stage in the world, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. One of her proudest achievements is composing her song “Sgubhu” which features on the soundtrack for the Oscar/Academy Award winning movie “Tsotsi”. The multi talented creative has the honour of being the first African to voice a Character on Walt Disney Junior on the incredibly popular show Doc Mc Stuffins. Unathi was also nominated for Best South African Radio Host at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2014.
Lucky Bean Media which she co-owns was nominated for an International Emmy Award for their work on Master Chef South Africa and her Live Music DVD was nominated for Best DVD at the South African Music Awards.
A Rhodes University Journalism and Drama graduate, a University of Utrecht International Media studies Graduate, Unathi over the years she has collected a string of accolades that have stamped her as one of the most influential women in entertainment.
To mention a few, Song of The Year at the MMAs, Best Female at the MMAs. She has been frequently voted for in the Top Ten people in Media by The Star newspaper and was named as the most promising woman in media at the MTN Media Awards, hosted by Media Magazine. Unathi is often nominated at the South African Music awards.
This young lady continues to reinvent herself through the years and with 16 years of experience under her belt, it is evident that South Africa has given birth to a true gem, Unathi.
