Michaela angela Davis cares about culture, style and equality. She’s an image activist, writer, conversationalist, editorial director, feminist, fashionista, community servant, and CNN contributor.
Recently, The NAACP of New York distinguished Michaela with the “Phenomenal Woman” Award, The City of New York proclaimed her a “Trailblazer,” and the Feminist Press honored her for her ”Empowerment” of women. These among many other accolades, are a response to her relentless efforts to expand the limited narratives about identity, beauty, race and gender in media.
Michaela has advanced the images of women and people of color at nearly every major media outlet targeting the African American market. She was Essence Magazine’s fashion editor and the magazine’s only executive fashion, beauty and culture editor. She was the first fashion director of Vibe Magazine as well as fashion director and editor-in-chief of Honey Magazine. She was a chief creative consultant for the highly successful rebranding of BET Networks. She’s currently the network’s editorial brand manager.
Michaela, a mentor to many young women of color, volunteers with the Black Girls Rock! and Imagenation organizations. She is the recipient of the Brooklyn Community Service Human Spirit Award and sits on the BCS Board of Directors. She lives in the Peoples Republic of Brooklyn and is the mother of Elenni Davis-Knight aka @DopeDaughter..

There is a new global urgency enforcing equality, inclusion and affirmation-race, gender, marriage, religious-into mainstream media.
A mighty wave of images of varied and complex identities are breaking through traditional mediums via digital and social media asserting unique identities and ideas into the collective imagination. In order to remain relevant and competitive brands will have to reach beyond the clichés of diversity and multiculturalism and look to make meaningful, consistent connections by telling authentic stories.
This session will be a colorful conversation with Image Activist Michaela Angela Davis about recognizing and responding to the rise of the new other.
Session 2: Women Rocking The World:
From Leaders of counties to leaders of the household women are the most influential “minority” group in the world. In what appears to be the 2nd wave of the women’s movement and a rebirth of feminism now more than ever it’s critical women listen to and support each other and work together to reach common goals-having more accurate representation in the media, better social security and securing a permanent place at the table of power Feminist and Image Activist will lead a casual and candid conversation about defining women.
